Auxiliary propulsion is a safety system.

The engine must start, cool, charge and deliver controlled propulsion after long periods of light use, poor weather or restricted manoeuvring space.

Reliability depends on complete supporting systems, not only on the engine block.

Cooling and exhaust

Seawater intake, strainer, pump, heat exchanger, injection point and exhaust route must remain observable and serviceable.

Fuel

Tanks, valves, filtration, return paths and emergency supply are arranged for clean changeover and fault isolation.

Mechanical installation

Mounts, shaft line, controls, charging and access must support routine service and emergency intervention.

SENSIBLE LATER

Noise reduction and monitoring after reliability is proven.

Additional sensors and acoustic treatment are useful only when they preserve ventilation, inspection access and manual fault finding.
