Technical & Refit

Technical refit

We are preparing PRANIS to be safe, reliable and easy to maintain. Good equipment stays; weak systems are repaired or replaced.

Refit priorities

We use four simple labels for every item:

  • Keep: sound equipment that suits the boat and can be maintained sensibly.
  • Service: parts that need inspection, cleaning, adjustment or routine renewal before passage use.
  • Upgrade: changes that improve reliability, monitoring, access, redundancy or crew workload.
  • Replace: equipment that is unsafe, obsolete, unsupported or no longer fit for purpose.

This approach helps us avoid replacing good gear just because something newer exists. It also makes uncertainty visible. If a choice is still under review, we will say so.

Current work areas

We focus first on structure, steering, propulsion, rig, energy, water and safety. Comfort comes next.

Detailed notes

Detailed technical notes will be added as separate dated posts and gathered from this page when there is evidence behind them: inspected components, completed tasks, test results or documented decisions. Until then, broad plans remain labelled as plans.

Follow this index for concise updates on what we keep, service, upgrade or replace as PRANIS moves towards longer passages.
