Safety

Safety

Safety aboard PRANIS is not one cupboard full of equipment. It is a combination of a sound yacht, reliable systems, clear responsibilities, realistic passage planning and routines that still work when people are tired.

Preparation Before Comfort

The refit is prioritised in this order: structural integrity, watertightness, steering, propulsion, rig, electrical safety, bilge systems, fire protection, communications and lifesaving equipment. Comfort matters greatly, but it cannot compensate for a weak critical system.

Clear Roles Aboard

Uwe is the Master in Command and carries final nautical responsibility. Anis is Acting Master whenever command is formally delegated. In everyday life we work as equal partners, but in a time-critical situation the command structure must be immediately clear.

Practical Readiness

  • Weather and passage planning with conservative alternatives.
  • Regular checks of bilge, steering, rig, engine and electrical systems.
  • Emergency steering and man-overboard procedures that are understood and practised.
  • Reliable distress communication and position equipment.
  • Medical preparation suitable for remote cruising.
  • Lifejackets, tethers and deck routines matched to conditions.
  • Fire and gas safety based on inspection, maintenance and clear shut-off procedures.
